Tang Soo Do History

1982
Started training Tang Soo Do on 15 Feb 1982, aged 17.
After coming off second best in a street brawl he decided that he needed to learn some self-defence. Fortunately, Master Tong Mun Kim was teaching Tang Soo Do in the area at the time, assisted by a newly promoted black belt who is now Master Wynford Williams.

1988
Graded to 2nd Dan.
Appointed General Secretary to the ITF (UK)

1991
Attended 2nd ITF World Championships.
Graded to 3rd Dan.
Bronze Medal Team Sparring.

Attended 3rd ITF World Championships, in Atlanta.

Opens Pyle Tang Soo Do club

Graded to 4th Dan - Master Instructor

Co-Directed 5th ITF World Championships in Cardiff, Wales
Gold Medal in the Masters Hyung (forms)

2004
Assumed overall responsibility for the Pen-y-Waun class.
Attended 6th ITF World Championships, in Orlando, Florida
re-qualified as a certificated referee.

2005
Attended 4th Master / Instructor's Conference in Pittsburgh.
Qualified in CPR.
Opens 2 new classes in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales.
Attained the 'P Award' status in training Speed, Agility & Quickness by SAQ® International and became a certificated SAQ® Trainer.
Graded to 5th Dan under Choong Jae Nim CS Kim.


Master Hellings' tireless dedication to Tang Soo Do has been recognised on numerous occasions by his instructor Master Wynford Williams and most recently by the President / Founder of the ITF - Master C S Kim in a letter that stated,

"We (the ITF) consider you to be a valuable asset not only to your instructor but to the International Tang Soo Do Federation as well."
